About the Role

Overlanders Manufacturing is seeking a Safety Associate to join our team. This role supports the day‑to‑day health and safety activities across our manufacturing operations and plays an important role in promoting a safe, compliant, and proactive safety culture. The Safety Associate works closely with managers, supervisors, Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) members, and employees to help ensure safety programs, training, and procedures are followed consistently.

Key Responsibilities:
Health & Safety Support:
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of company health & safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Support compliance with WorkSafeBC, CSA standards, and occupational health & safety regulations.
  • Assist with maintaining safety documentation, incident reports, and training records.
Inspections & Hazard Identification:
  • Participate in regular safety inspections of production floors, equipment, and work areas.
  • Identify hazards and support corrective action tracking and follow‑up.
  • Assist with ensuring safe work procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and hazardous material handling are followed.
Training & Orientation:
  • Assist with safety orientations for new hires, contractors, and visitors.
  • Support ongoing training such as WHMIS, PPE use, lockout/tagout, and emergency preparedness.
  • Maintain training logs and certificates.
Incident Reporting & JHSC Support:
  • Support supervisors and JHSC members with reporting and investigating incidents and near misses.
  • Help prepare JHSC meeting materials, track action items, and assist with inspections.
  • Support toolbox talks and safety huddles as needed.
Emergency Preparedness & Safety Promotion:
  • Assist with emergency response planning, drills, and evacuation procedures.
  • Help ensure first aid supplies, fire extinguishers, spill kits, and emergency equipment are inspected and maintained.
  • Promote safety awareness through postings, notices, and internal safety communications.

Qualifications:
  • 1 - 2+ years of experience in a health & safety or safety‑support role within manufacturing, industrial, or multi‑site environments.
  • Basic working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and occupational health & safety best practices.
  • Exposure to JHSC/JOHS meetings or safety inspections is an asset.
  • Ability to assist with hands‑on safety training.
  • Familiarity with incident reporting and corrective action tracking.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites, if required.

Employment Details:
Location: Abbotsford, BC
Shift: Day Shift - Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Wage: $25 - $30 per hour (Dependent on experience)
